Daily Event for May 15, 2011

May 15, 1897 the passenger ship Egypt was launched at Caird & Company in Greenock for Peninsular & Orient Line. Sister to the India the Egypt was built of the finest material of the time and was very well appointed for the passengers comfort. Twenty-five years and five days later on May 20, 1922 Egypt was sent to the bottom of the North Atlantic off Ile d' Ouessant, France when the French steamer Seine rammed and sank the ship.
