Daily Event for May 16, 2010

May 16, 1900 the cruiser Aboukir was launched at Fairfield Shipbuilding in Govan, Scotland. One of six Cressy class cruisers she was christened by Mrs. Digby. Of the six in the class, three were scrapped and three were sunk, all on the same day. HMS Cressy, HMS Hogue and HMS Aboukir were torpedoed and sunk on Sept. 22, 1914 by SMS U-9.
