Daily Event for August 24, 2010

August 24, 1907 at 5:50 p.m. at Devonport Dockyard the battleship Téméraire was launched. She was christened by Countess Fortescue with a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of colonial wine. Rule Britannia was played by the band and the ship, the largest hull launched up to that time, slid into the Hamoaze without difficulty. She survived the war even serving at the Battle of Jutland and was scrapped in 1921.
