February 1, 1849 the sidewheeler Pacific was launched by Brown & Bell in New York for the Collins Line. A little less than seven years later she went missing after leaving Liverpool. In 1991 the wreck was found 12 miles from Liverpool, the cause of the sinking is still unknown.
