One of the thirteen cargo ships sunk in Convoy PQ-18 was the SS Oregonian, she was built as Santa Rosa in 1917 and served as a troopship for the U. S. Army and later the U. S. Navy during World War 1. She came to grief on Sept. 13, 1942 when the convoy was attacked by Luftwaffe aircraft from KG-30, I./KG-26 and III./KG-26, an aerial torpedo sent her to the bottom taking twenty-seven crewmen with her. The twenty-nine survivors were picked up by escorts.
