Daily Event for April 30


In Oct. 1896 the 3,669 ton 350' long cargo ship Guyana was launched at Barclay Curle in Glasgow. She was
sold the following year to G. Smith & Sons and renamed City of Lucknow. Twenty years went by when on
Apr. 30, 1916 the old steamer was sunk without warning by SMS U-21 sixty miles east of Malta. All of the
62 crewmen made it into the boats and were picked up five hours later by a British destroyer.
