In Oct. 1896 the 3,669 ton 350' long cargo ship Guyana was launched at Barclay Curle in Glasgow. She was sold the following year to G. Smith & Sons and renamed City of Lucknow. Twenty years went by when on Apr. 30, 1916 the old steamer was sunk without warning by SMS U-21 sixty miles east of Malta. All of the 62 crewmen made it into the boats and were picked up five hours later by a British destroyer. |
