Daily Event for August 14

The UB-103 sailed from Zeebrugge, Belgium on Aug. 14, 1918 with a crew of 37 men, it is believed she hit a
mine shortly after leaving taking the whole crew to the bottom. Her commander Kapitänleutnant Paul Hundius,
who sank 69 ships totaling 95,000 tons, never even knew he had received the Pour le Mérite, it was awarded to
him on Aug. 18, four days after he left port and probably after he had died.
