Daily Event for June 23


June 23, 1984 the Ford FFG-54 was launched at Todd Pacific Shipyards Corp. in Seattle, Washington. Ford was
named in honor of Gunners Mate 2nd Class Patrick O. Ford who was killed in the water by Viet Cong gunners
following the sinking of the river patrol boat he was serving on. Saving the lives of two of his shipmates while
loosing his own, Ford was awarded the Navy Cross.
