I was assigned to the USS Lexington OE division out of ET School at TI in April of 1955. We recommissioned her in August of 1955. We made our first overseas cruise for 6 months in 1956 and got back to San Diego, her home port, in Dec 1956. Transferred off in the spring of 1957 as a ET2. Lots of great memories.

To former shipmates. The USS LEXINGTON Ship's historian (Mrs. Judith Whipple) at the LEX Museum in Corpus Christi, TX. is looking for anyone who can provide her with information about the LEX during the time she;

1. Went around the horn in 1962.
2. Her involvement in the Cuban crisis and her designation at that time.
3. When was her 5"38 guns removed and where it was done.
4. Any other history information about her during the time she went around the horn and was designated to as a CVS-CVT-AVT.

You can reach Judith at the ship via e-mail (historian@usslexington.com) or call 1-361-888-4873 ext 318, She is also the main person for any memorabilia you may want to donate to the LEX Museum. Please help her if you can.

Thanks,

Michael,
The note is in reference to the third photo of USS Lexington (CV-16) captioned:
"July 15, 1963: USS Lexington CVS-16 location not available."

The Lex was home ported in Pensacola, Florida, and operated in the Gulf of Mexico as a training carrier. I served aboard her from April, 1961 - September, 1963. Thanks for a very informative site.
