My name is Joanie Schwartz and I'm 51 yrs old. My maiden name was Palmer. My dad, John Franklin Palmer served aboard the U.S.S. Boxer CV-21 during the Korean Conflict as an airplane mechanic. My mother was pregnant with my oldest sibling in 1952 when there was a fire on board out at sea. I remember her talking about that time and how hard it was for her not knowing whether he was alive or dead.

I was wondering if you know of any photos of the crew where I might be able to see my father in. He passed away in 1967 in an accident. Me, my brother and 2 sisters along with my mom moved to the Bay Area in 1968.  My mother  passed away Feb. 24th, 2007. I am trying to find any photos you may know of or anyone may have that can be posted so I can see if I can find my dad in them. By the way.....I am in awe of the photos so far that have been placed on the website for all to enjoy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

God Bless all who served on board the Boxer CV-21.
Joanie Schwartz

My name is Larry Adams, RD3, I was on the USS Boxer OI Division, from Mar. 1963 until Jan. 1966. Made many cruises aboard the Boxer, can't say they were all fun but all of them were interesting. I live in Columbus, NE. now and look back at those days when I was very much younger, I still wonder about them and think that maybe I should have stayed in, but that's a different story for later.

I very much enjoy this sight as it shows many ships of my youth, they too have gotten old and are now scrap.  The USS Boxer Assns. reunions are a great place to meet old shipmates, I have made 3 of them since it started.  That's all for now, hope you had a Merry Christmas and wishing you all a very Happy New Year (2009).

Larry Adams
