Captain Reuben Robert Edmonds.

Captain Reuben Robert Edmonds made his last voyage as Commodore of the Woolwich Ferry Service in command of the John Benn on 1st May 1946 before retiring at the age of 65 after 40 years of service on the line. He died 9 years later. 

On 30th June 1926 he was instrumental in saving the ferry from disaster when it was hit by the US ship Goahoma County whilst discharging passengers and vehicles. His quick thinking and actions resulted in commendation and presentation of a solid gold watch by the City of London and letters from passengers.
