Daily Event for November 18, 2008

Built in Barrow in 1930 the R class submarine HMS Regulus N-88 went missing after leaving Alexandria, Egypt on Nov. 18, 1940. Her patrol area was to be in the Adriatic, but it is not known if she ever made it there. It is thought she hit a mine in the Straits of Taranto, although the Italians claimed sinking a submarine on Nov. 26. Neither of these claims are confirmed, and the wreck has yet to be found.

On Jan. 9, 1941 the following was announced in the London Times;
