Daily Event for November 16

A mine laid by U-103 claimed the SS Garron Head on Nov. 16, 1917 in the Bay of Biscay. She was built at
Irvine's in West Hartlepool in 1913 and operated for the Ulster Steamship Company (Head Line) of Belfast.
During the war they would lose 11 ships, ten to U-boats, Garron Head was the only one lost to a mine. It is
known the master survived, however twenty-eight others perished.
