Daily Event for January 9


On Jan. 4, 1930 the French cruiser Edgar Quinet ran aground on the rocks near Cape Blanco, Habibas Islands,
Algeria. A 15' hole was torn in the side of the ship and she was stuck fast. For several days they tried to free
her but all attempts to refloat her failed. On Jan. 9 she was abandoned and declared a total loss. No lives were
lost.
