June 7, 1946 the Japanese destroyer Kamikaze was wrecked off Omaezaki, Japan while trying to salvage another ship. The ship was a total loss and was scrapped on site. This was the last of the Kamikaze class and the only one of the nine ships in the class to survive the war in seaworthy condition. Of the other eight ships, seven were sunk in combat while the eighth was so badly damaged in combat that she was towed to Sasebo and scrapped. |
