Daily Event for January 21

Jan. 21, 1945 off Land's End in Cornwall the U-1199 was depth charged and sunk by HMS Icarus D-03 and HMS Mignonette K-38. The boat took 49 men 240 feet down to the bottom, however one man, Friedrich Claussen,
somehow managed to escape. This is the deepest that anyone has ever escaped from a submarine without any
assistance from the surface.
