For thirty years the Long Island Railroad made a stop at "Fannie Bartlett", a flag stop on the line. There was however no town named Fannie Bartlett, it was only a nameplate mounted on the pole. The nameplate came from the schooner Fannie J Bartlett which was wrecked on Napeague, NY on Jan. 16, 1894. Who mounted the nameplate and why is not known. |
