Daily Event for May 8


May 8, 1916 one year and one day after sinking the Lusitania, Walther Schwieger and his U-20 torpedoed the White Star Liner Cymric. The attack took place about 140 miles WNW of Fastnet, Ireland killing four in the explosion. One further person was killed while abandoning the ship, which sank on the 9th. However the remaining 105 on board were rescued.
