Daily Event for May 5

May 5, 1937 at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg the Wilhelm Gustloff was launched. Used for cruising, as a hospital
ship and a floating barrack, the Gustloff would become the world's worst maritime disaster on Jan. 30, 1945
when she was sunk by the S-13 in the Baltic Sea with the loss of over 9,000 lives.
