Daily Event for September 2

Sixty years ago today 1945: On the deck of the USS Missouri members of the Japanese delegation signed the instrument of surrender ending the second world war. After the most devastating war in human history, with one stroke of the pen it was over. Over 54,000,000 people were killed and millions more no longer had a home. The suffering caused by the war would last for decades. It changed the lives of those who fought the war in ways nobody could imagine. Some still can't talk about their experiences sixty years later. The men and women who fought the war on the allied side saved the world. And we all owe them a debt that can never be repaid. We honor their sacrifice and thank them for our freedom.
