Daily Event for October 10

October 10, 1910: The White Star liner Olympic was launched by Harland & Wolff in Belfast, Ireland. The Olympic would be the only one of the big three to be a success. Her sisters Titanic and Britannic would both meet with disaster. Olympic would have her share of close calls though, while serving as a passenger liner and
a troop ship including being rammed by the HMS Hawke, aiding in the rescue of the crew of the HMS Audacious and was the only four funnel liner to sink a U-boat. (she rammed and sank the U-103) While the ship was broken up some of her fittings are still in use at the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick, Northumberland, England. This is all that is left of White Star's big three.
