Daily Event for November 9, 2005

On November 9, 1971 the bulk freighter Banaluna, sailed from Tolosa, Leyte, Philippines loaded with magnetite iron concentrate bound for Kokura, Japan. The 13,616 ton ship had reported in on Nov. 12 by radio, but this was the last contact anyone had with the ship. At the time the captain had not notified anyone that his ship was in distress. It is presumed that the ship and the thirty-five men in her went down in a hurricane.
