Daily Event for August 18


August 18, 1750: A hurricane that came ashore near Cape Charles, Virginia wreaked havoc on the new Spanish fleet. The Nuestra Senora de los Godos was sunk on the 18th. Other ships in the fleet were lost in the same storm between Virginia and North Carolina. At least two ships made it to Norfolk but were lost in the next storm.
