In reference to "Brief History of British Army Landing Craft" By Col. John Fidler to the LCT mk v111 L 4086 Arromanches. The piece states that it took part in the Suez campaign getting as far as Malta. I was in the Royal Signals at the time and was a qualified Merchant Navy Radio Officer. I was posted to the Arromanches as its RO.

In fact it went on to Cyprus and into Suez itself. It received major damage in Suez from a collision with one of the Canal Company dredgers which had been moved by the Navy and after jury rigged repairs limped back to Malta where it was repaired in the floating dry dock in the grand harbour at Valetta. It eventually returned to the UK docking at Barry Docks where I left for another posting. The photo on this page shows her alongside in Suez.

Cheers,
Geoffrey Baker
