Note the headline: "Cruiser Damaged In The Firth of Forth"
(In the sub-headline the U-boat commander says the ship was torpedoed. HMS Belfast actually hit a mine laid by U-21, but the German Propaganda Ministry, working with the German press, put out the false story about the ship being torpedoed. According to secret papers of the German Naval High Command, the purpose of this was to keep the British from suspecting that the Firth of Forth had been mined.)

Note the report in column 7: "Mass Executions In Poland"

November 25, 1939: Front page of the Press and Journal, Aberdeen, Scotland.

Note the report in column 3: "Another U-boat Sunk By French"
(The French had not sunk any German submarines to this date. The German Naval High Command recorded that U-41 was attacked west of the Gironde River and stayed submerged for some 20 hours, but the position of this attack makes it unlikely that this is the same U-boat mentioned in the story.)

Note the report in column 3: "Warsaw's Hero"
(Stefan Starzynski was held and tortured by the Nazis and did not survive the concentration camps. The exact date and circumstances of his death remain unclear.)

November 25, 1939: Front page of The Lethbridge Herald, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
(Click on the image for a readable version.)

Note the report at center: "New German Sea Menace? Fleet Of Large Surface Raiders Capable of Submerging When Danger Appears Now Looked For"
(This fanciful fairy tale by Jean Pierre Signy must have been spun from whole cloth. There must have been a reason to write such a fiction, but if there was it's beyond my grasp to understand. Not a word of it was true, or came true.)
Also note the report in column 4: Von Neurath Shocked By Gestapo Methods And Asks To Quit Post"
(Konstantine von Neurath was the man who ordered the suppression of student protestors which has been in the press the last few days. He enforced the laws against the Jews and overall was a typical Nazi overlord. However in Hitler's eyes he was not brutal enough and he was replaced in late 1941 by SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, one of the most brutal and evil men who ever lived. Von Neurath was convicted of crimes against humanity at Nürnberg and spent 9 years in prison, he died in 1956. This report is another example of the press either being fooled by a source or just making a story up out of whole cloth. Today was not a good day for the accuracy of the reports in this newspaper.)

November 25, 1939: Front page of The Lowell Sun, Lowell, Massachusetts.
(Click on the image for a readable version.)
Note the headline: "Six Neutral Countries Turn On Great Britain"
(Of the six countries who lodged a protest, Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark would be invaded and occupied by Germany. Italy and Japan would become Germany's Axis partners. Only Sweden would remain neutral AND unoccupied through the whole war.)
Also note the report in column 1: "British Sub Lure Sunk By U-boat"
(I have been unable to identify what ship is being referred to in the report. This report came from the German press and it's a headline in the Hamburg newspaper below.)

November 25, 1939: Front page of Butte Montana Standard, Butte, Montana.

November 25, 1939: Front page of The Ogden Standard Examiner, Ogden City, Utah.
(Click on the image for a readable version.)
Note the headline: "Family Of Five Found Slain In Salt Lake Home"
(Just so you know, this kind of thing does not just happen in the modern world as some seem to think.)

November 25, 1939: Front page of The Lima News, Lima, Ohio.

November 25, 1939: Installment #14 of "Stalin Unmasked" from the San Antonio Light, San Antonio, Texas.
