October 27, 1939: Front page of The Daily Mail, Hull, England.

Note the report at top right: "Shattered U-Boat Found on Goodwins: 50 Bodies Recovered"
(This was U-16 which probably hit a mine. There were 28 men on board, only 19 were recovered, but most of them washed ashore at a later date.)
Also note the story at top left: "Swiss Invasion Indicated"
(Switzerland was never invaded by the Germans and remained a neutral country through the whole war. It was the international hot spot for espionage, secret money laundering by the Nazis and others and headquarters for the International the Red Cross.)
