Note the sub-headline: "Germany Claims 15,000-Ton British Transport Blasted Into Flaming Wreck" and the associated report in column 1: "Cruiser Sent to Bottom of Norse Fjord"
(The report states that the Germans claimed bombers sank a British cruiser and destroyed a transport. Several air attacks were made, but only HMT Rutlandshire, an anti-submarine Trawler, was sunk. The cruiser HMS Carlisle was slightly damaged by a near miss, which the Germans were unaware of, even though they were aware of Carlisle's presence off Åndalsnes, Norway. In official documents the Germans believed that they had hit a 15,000 transport, but this was incorrect.)

April 21, 1940: Front page of The Port Arthur News, Port Arthur, Texas.

Note the report in column 1: "Southern Ohio Hit By Floods"

Note the report in column 8: "Transport Hit By Nazi Bombs: Cruiser Sunk"
(This report, by Associated Press reporter Alvin J. Steinkopf, makes a declarative statement, rather than stating that "Germany claims" like the other reports of this incident. The entire article is written with a decidedly German point of view and borders on propaganda. Although the headline writer is more accurate when he wrote "Nazis Claim Heavy Blows To Allies" because claims were all they were.)

Also note the report in column 7: "Blind Woman, Hit By Car, Seeks Aid First For Her Dog"
