Note the report in column 2: "Bremen Reported Sunk"
(Since the beginning of the war, the western press was obsessed with the famous German liner Bremen. This report is completely false as Bremen was not involved with the German invasion of Norway. Bremen was in dock at Bremerhaven, Germany under repair and there were plans to use the ship, but she was set on fire on Mar. 16, 1941 and destroyed. The ship was scrapped during the war and the steel was used for the German war effort. Some of her hull, which was towed to a sandbar off Blexen, Germany in 1946, still remains where it was discarded.)
Also note the report in column 3: "Food Rationing for Danes"

Note the report in column 2: "Child Is Cleared In Mass Murder"
(11 year-old Chloe Davis, who was all but convicted in the press, now given three paragraphs when it is decided she is innocent. That's the American way, accuse in big bold headlines, acquit in small print below the fold.)

[Note that the Chloe Davis acquittal does not appear on the front page of the Bakersfield Californian. Their readers were seeing bold headlines when she was believed to be guilty, but when the court says she is innocent, the four paragraph report is on page 2.]
